Hideaki Noguchi I took a walk in a quiet neighborhood of the city listening to this album, and suddenly I couldn't distinguish the rhythms of city life (construction noises in the distance, ambiance of tires driving over asphalt) with the music itself, and that may be the point. The melding of electronics, ambient washes, along with field recordings strike great juxtapositions, yet seem so natural to create a diverse, meditative landscape. 5 stars. Favorite track: A Lovely Walk.

pietro bonanno It's like being half asleep near a watercourse. Was I really there or was I dreaming? Where did the voice come from? Was there a forest nearby? It's a work of a moving beauty. Favorite track: Trees.

torza Absolutely beautiful. Like one foot in the clouds, the other grounded in soft grass. Experimental, but still accessible. It's all these juxtapositions that make this record great.
Mike Gowan

Mike Gowan A great example of subtlety in sound design. Ambient, melodic.. the frequencies and vocals sit just right. Favorite track: A Lovely Walk.

about

Cat Tyson Hughes is an Australian composer and artist working in experimental music and contemporary art. Tyson Hughes has spent the last few years working on various music commissions by artists and theatre makers, as well as performing in band 'Fire to the Stars'.

Gentle Encounters with Things was mostly recorded at home and outside, using very limited equipment. This project has taken many forms; a sound walk, a sculpture, and now a series of musical pieces. It explores the new materialist phenomenon of ‘thing-power’ and the methodology of a prolonged commitment to daily walks, while collecting both sonic and physical material. Gentle Encounters with Things is the documentation of, or reflection on various encounters experienced while walking.
